Centrist Masoud Pezeshkian has won Iran’s presidential election run-off against hardline conservative Saeed Jalili, the Interior Ministry announces.
An official vote count put Pezeshkian as the winner with 16.3m ballots to Jalili’s 13.5m.
Voter turnout in the second round stood at 49.8 percent, according to official figures.

The election was originally scheduled for 2025 but was brought forward following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi, who was killed in a helicopter crash in May.

Masoud Pezeshkian got nearly three million votes more than Saeed Jalili, while turnout stood at 49.8 percent.
Masoud Pezeshkian secured 53.7 percent or 16.3 million votes, defeating hardliner Saeed Jalili’s 13.5 million votes in Friday’s run-off.
The result means that the moderate, reformist-backed candidate will become Iran’s ninth president.
