Abba Abubakar, son of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has announced plans to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abubakar, founder and chairman of the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO), unveiled the plan on Friday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja. He had earlier defected to the ruling party.
He said the organisation was preparing to begin a nationwide mobilisation campaign, including a two-million-man march across the six geopolitical zones, starting from Abuja.
According to him, its immediate priority would be to support the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, whom he described as a key figure in its mobilisation strategy. He said the organisation was working towards securing victories for Tinubu in both the FCT and Rivers State in 2027, in line with Wike’s political objectives.
Abubakar also disclosed that HBTO was planning a major mobilisation exercise in Rivers State during the first week of November.
As part of its efforts to support the administration’s reform agenda through practical interventions, the organisation is also introducing a transportation initiative that will begin with the provision of 10 luxury buses.
He explained that the programme was designed to ease commuting difficulties and reduce transportation costs for Nigerians, adding that political support should involve practical contributions to people’s daily lives.
The initiative is expected to begin in the FCT before being extended to other parts of the country.
Abubakar said the organisation’s structures were already being activated, with members working at the grassroots and supporters preparing to demonstrate its reach.
He maintained that the mobilisation effort was not merely about gathering large crowds but about building an organised grassroots network capable of converting political support into votes.
He added that HBTO planned to establish structures across the six geopolitical zones, strengthen its state and zonal networks, engage community leaders and collaborate with other political groups to support Tinubu’s re-election.
The former vice-president’s son also defended his decision to establish the organisation, describing it as a personal political choice based on his convictions.
He said he respected the right of Nigerians to hold different political opinions and expected others to respect his decision to support Tinubu.
According to him, democracy benefits when citizens can make independent political choices, participate in constructive discussions and support leaders and political platforms they believe represent their interests.
Abubakar explained that HBTO was created to unite Nigerians who shared its confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and the reform programme of the APC-led government.
He said the organisation aimed to build an inclusive and coordinated national movement that would mobilise supporters, engage communities, explain government policies and participate actively in the political process.
He added that its activities would extend beyond political meetings to direct engagement with residents, with the aim of communicating the objectives and expected benefits of government policies.
Abubakar acknowledged that some of Tinubu’s reforms had brought difficult economic adjustments for Nigerians since the president assumed office. However, he said the organisation believed the progress, opportunities and long-term benefits expected from the policies should also be considered.
He maintained that the administration had introduced measures across different sectors to address longstanding structural problems and put the country on a path towards sustainable economic growth.
