An eVisa is an electronic travel authorisation issued after an applicant completes the required process online. However, the requirements, fees, processing periods and permitted length of stay differ from one country to another.

Among the destinations listed as offering eVisa or online visa facilities to Nigerians are South Africa, Rwanda, Djibouti, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Cambodia, Malaysia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Albania, Serbia, Moldova and Bahrain.

South Africa operates an online eVisa system through its Department of Home Affairs. Applicants can create an account, complete the application, upload supporting documents and make payments electronically. The electronic visa is linked to the traveller’s passport, although applicants must satisfy the eligibility requirements and use designated airports covered by the programme.

Rwanda also provides an online visa application system. However, Nigerians travelling to the country for short visits generally do not need an eVisa because Nigerian citizens benefit from Rwanda’s 30-day visa-free arrangement.

Djibouti is listed among destinations offering eVisa access to Nigerian passport holders, alongside a visa-on-arrival option. Applicants are expected to check the latest entry requirements, including passport validity, supporting documents and permitted duration of stay.

Ecuador and El Salvador are also listed as countries where Nigerians can use electronic visa routes. Applicants must still satisfy the immigration requirements of the respective countries, as submitting an online application does not guarantee approval.

Equatorial Guinea is another African destination with an eVisa facility for Nigerians, providing an alternative to beginning the visa process through a traditional embassy application.

In Asia, Cambodia, Malaysia and Qatar are among the destinations listed as offering electronic visa options to Nigerians. Cambodia’s eVisa category allows a stay of up to 30 days, while current visa information lists a 14-day stay for the Malaysian eVisa category.

Qatar also provides an online visa route for eligible Nigerian travellers, although applicants must select the appropriate visa category and meet the applicable requirements.

The United Arab Emirates provides electronic visa application options for eligible travellers. However, Nigerian applicants need to check the conditions attached to their particular nationality, visa category and travel circumstances before applying.

Australia also uses an online visa application system. Nigerian applicants must meet Australia’s immigration requirements and provide all documents requested during the application process.

In Europe, Albania, Serbia and Moldova are among the destinations listed as having electronic visa routes available to Nigerian passport holders. Applicants should verify the latest entry conditions before making travel arrangements.

Bahrain is another Middle Eastern destination listed as offering an eVisa facility to Nigerians, with applicants required to check the applicable visa category, fees and documentation before submitting an application.

Other destinations listed in current visa data as offering eVisa or online visa routes to Nigerians include Angola, Botswana, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritania, Namibia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The list also includes Bhutan, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

In the Caribbean and the Americas, destinations with online visa facilities listed for Nigerians include Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Nicaragua, Trinidad and Tobago, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela.

The exact number of eVisa destinations can vary between visa databases because some countries classify their systems differently. Some offer a direct eVisa, while others provide an online application or electronic travel authorisation that may require additional processing.

Nigerian travellers should therefore confirm the latest requirements with the immigration authorities of their intended destination before booking flights or making other travel arrangements.

It is also important to note that an eVisa is not the same as visa-free entry. It simply allows eligible travellers to apply electronically instead of necessarily submitting a traditional paper application at an embassy.
