The Federal Government has ruled out negotiations with terrorists, saying military action remains the most effective way to tackle terrorism in Nigeria.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, disclosed this while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Luanda, Angola.

Ojukwu said the summit provided an opportunity for Nigeria and other African countries to discuss measures for preventing conflicts, combating terrorism and violent extremism, and strengthening peace and security across the continent.
She said Nigeria used the meeting to present its position on terrorism and regional security, making it clear that the government would not pursue negotiations or mediation with terrorist groups.

The minister said terrorists could not be persuaded through dialogue and that the government’s strategy was focused on defeating them through a strong security response.
She added that Nigeria remained determined to confront terrorism without adopting a lenient approach.
According to Ojukwu, the government believes that decisive military action is necessary to weaken terrorist groups and restore security in affected communities.
She said Nigeria’s delegation attended the summit to communicate President Bola Tinubu’s position on the fight against terrorism, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima representing the President at the meeting.
The minister said Nigeria would continue working with other African countries to strengthen regional security cooperation and address terrorism and violent extremism across the continent.
