According to sources, the alleged confrontation took place shortly after the 6 a.m. Mass. A member of the Knights of St. John International, identified as Sir Iyke Nwatakwocha, was said to have confronted the priest during the incident.
The sources alleged that Nwatakwocha damaged the priest’s vehicle and threatened some worshippers who attempted to intervene in the confrontation.
The reason for the reported altercation was not immediately known at the time of filing the report.
Some members of the congregation, however, claimed that the same individual had previously confronted Nwajiagu earlier in the year at the priest’s parish. They expressed concern over the alleged recurrence of the incident and called for steps to prevent another confrontation.
The worshippers urged the Catholic Diocese of Enugu to investigate the matter and establish what led to the alleged attack. They also appealed for appropriate measures to be taken if the allegations are established.
The incident has reportedly caused concern among some members of the church community, particularly over the safety of clergy and worshippers during church activities.
The allegations had not been independently verified as of press time.
Efforts to obtain comments from Nwajiagu, Nwatakwocha, the Knights of St. John International and the Catholic Diocese of Enugu were ongoing as of the time of filing the report.
