The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported an attempted compromise of its official X account, raising concerns over possible unauthorised access to the military’s social media platform.

The disclosure was made on Saturday in a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba.

According to the DHQ, the incident has been classified as a cybersecurity matter, with technical measures immediately activated to protect the account and prevent further unauthorised access.

The military authorities said efforts were ongoing to regain full control of the account and secure it against further attempts to breach its systems.
The DHQ also warned members of the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to be cautious of any content published from the affected account while efforts to restore control continue.

The military headquarters said it remained committed to protecting its information platforms and ensuring that Nigerians receive reliable and timely information about the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The DHQ also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and rely on its verified accounts on other platforms for official information while the issue is being addressed.
These alternative channels include the Defence Headquarters Nigeria Facebook page, its Instagram account, @defenceheadquarters, and the Defence Headquarters Nigeria WhatsApp Channel.
The DHQ said further information would be provided as developments regarding the security of the X account emerge.
