The approval, according to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku, is intended to provide immediate financial support to the returnees as they settle back home.

The state government said the intervention is also meant to reassure the affected persons that they have not been abandoned during their period of difficulty.

Authorities have commenced a detailed assessment of the returnees to understand their individual situations, financial conditions and other challenges they may face after returning to the state.

The profiling exercise is expected to help the government determine further support required by each person and develop suitable measures to assist their reintegration into their communities.

The government said the assistance reflects Otti’s focus on supporting vulnerable residents and protecting the welfare of people facing difficult circumstances.

It added that the administration would continue to pursue programmes aimed at helping residents recover from hardship and regain the ability to contribute to their families and communities.

The state government also assured the returnees that they remain valued members of the Abia community, regardless of where they had lived or the circumstances that led to their return.

It further reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no indigene of the state is abandoned because of difficult personal or economic circumstances.
