Adeleke Condemns Arrest of Osun PDP Chairman, Demands Immediate Release

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for the immediate release of the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sunday Bisi, following reports of his arrest in Ilesa.

Adeleke made the demand in a statement shared on his official X account on Saturday through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

The governor alleged that Bisi was taken away from his residence shortly after returning from his polling unit where he had cast his vote in the ongoing governorship election.

According to Adeleke, the PDP chairman was taken to an undisclosed location and, as of the time of his statement, neither his whereabouts nor the reason for the reported arrest had been made known.

The governor described the development as an alleged misuse of security agencies and an attempt to interfere with the democratic process.

Adeleke further claimed that the reported arrest could be connected to efforts to disrupt the monitoring and collation of election results across the state. He alleged that the incident was part of a wider plan to restrict his supporters from being present at collation centres.

The governor accused the All Progressives Congress and what he described as compromised security officials of working together to gain an advantage during the results collation process.

He did not provide evidence to support the allegation but called on all authorities involved in the election to ensure that voters’ choices were protected.

Adeleke described the reported arrest as politically motivated and demanded the release of Bisi along with other individuals he referred to as political detainees across the state.

He said the election should allow residents to freely choose their preferred candidate without intimidation, coercion or the use of force.

The governor also warned against any attempt to alter the outcome of the election through actions at collation centres, saying the will of voters should be respected.

As of the time of the report, no security agency had publicly claimed responsibility for Bisi’s reported arrest or provided an explanation for the alleged detention.
