Osun Election: Amnesty Demands Probe of Fadahunsi over Alleged Incitement

Amnesty International Nigeria has called for an urgent investigation into alleged comments attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi ahead of the Osun State governorship election.

The organisation made the call in a post on its X account on Saturday, saying allegations that the senator made comments capable of encouraging violence should be properly investigated by the relevant authorities.

Amnesty International Nigeria urged authorities to carry out a prompt, independent and detailed investigation into the reported remarks and determine whether they amounted to a criminal offence.

The organisation said anyone found to have violated the law should face appropriate action, stressing that political disagreements should not be allowed to lead to violence.

It also called on members of the public to support its petition seeking an investigation into the matter and appropriate action by the authorities.

The demand came as voting continued across Osun State in the governorship election, with security and political tensions remaining high in some parts of the state.

The call for an investigation adds to growing concerns over statements and actions by political actors during the election period, as stakeholders continue to appeal for restraint and a peaceful electoral process.
