Calls have intensified for the immediate arrest and investigation of Senator Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, following a viral video in which he was allegedly heard making threatening remarks against members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The video, which circulated on social media, reportedly showed the All Progressives Congress lawmaker addressing party supporters during a protest over alleged attacks on APC members in Ilesa.
In the footage, Fadahunsi was allegedly heard urging APC supporters to confront Accord Party members and stop them from voting during the election. The reported remarks have generated reactions from political figures and members of the public, with concerns raised about their possible impact on the safety of voters and the conduct of the election.
An APC chieftain, Babafemi Ojudu, called on the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
Ojudu described the alleged statement as unacceptable and said such comments should not be made in a democratic society.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is contesting the election on the Accord Party platform, also demanded the arrest and prosecution of the senator.
Adeleke said the matter should be treated as a security issue rather than ordinary political disagreement. He called for the intervention of President Bola Tinubu through the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The governor said he had already raised the matter with the police chief and requested an investigation into the video.
He added that the IGP had confirmed seeing the video and assured him that action would be taken.
Other Nigerians have also used social media to demand that the senator be questioned over the alleged remarks, particularly because of the heightened political tension in Osun ahead of the August 15 election.
Fadahunsi, however, has denied making the statement attributed to him in the viral footage.
Speaking to TVC News on Tuesday night, the senator dismissed the video as fake and claimed it was generated using artificial intelligence.
He specifically alleged that the video being circulated by Davido and his supporters was AI-generated.
The conflicting claims have added to concerns surrounding the security of the Osun governorship election, with political parties and stakeholders calling for a peaceful process and urging security agencies to respond to any conduct capable of threatening voters or disrupting the poll.
