Osun ADC Candidate Promises 20,000 Jobs in First 100 Days

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State, Najeem Salaam, has promised to employ 20,000 people into the state civil service within his first 100 days in office if elected.

Salaam made the pledge during an Arise TV town hall meeting involving candidates contesting the August 15 Osun State governorship election.

The former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly said the proposed recruitment would cover different areas of the state’s workforce, including teaching and other professions.

He said the employment plan formed part of his 10-point development agenda and was based on programmes he believed could be achieved within his administration.

Salaam said his previous experience in government under former Governor Rauf Aregbesola had given him confidence that the recruitment target was achievable.

According to him, his administration would move quickly after assuming office to create employment opportunities for young people and strengthen the state’s public workforce.

The ADC candidate also promised to tackle electricity challenges in Osun State by providing uninterrupted power supply if elected governor.

Salaam said the Electricity Act 2023 had created an opportunity for state governments to participate in electricity generation and distribution, adding that Osun could take advantage of the provision to develop its own power system.

He questioned why the state should continue to struggle with inadequate electricity when other states had begun exploring alternative approaches to power generation and distribution.

Salaam said he had already consulted individuals with relevant expertise on how his administration could develop electricity infrastructure across the state.

He assured voters that his government would work towards providing 24-hour electricity without interruption if he wins the governorship election.

The promises formed part of Salaam’s presentation of his proposed development plans as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the August 15 governorship poll.
