NDC Calls For Gbajabiamila’s Removal Over PFIPC Scandal

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, following allegations connected to a group identified as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), which the Presidency has said is not a recognised government agency.

The opposition party also asked the President to suspend Gbajabiamila while an independent investigation is carried out. It said such a step would allow investigators to examine the matter without interference.

The call followed claims made by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who introduced himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC. Although the Presidency has denied the existence of the council, the NDC said several questions remain unanswered about how it allegedly operated.

According to the party, it is difficult to understand how an agency that has been declared non-existent could have reportedly received funding in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

It also questioned reports that the council operated domiciliary accounts, a Pounds Sterling account and a Treasury Single Account with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The NDC also raised concerns over reports that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation approved 314 staff positions for the agency.

It said such approval would normally require official government recognition, making the situation one that deserves careful examination.

The party referred to allegations made by Adeyemi that he paid N600 million to secure his appointment as Director-General of the council.

It said the claim included an allegation that N400 million was paid through people said to be linked to the Chief of Staff, while the remaining N200 million later became part of the disagreement surrounding the agency.

The NDC further referred to claims that Gbajabiamila allegedly requested 48 per cent of the agency’s reported take-off grant. It said Adeyemi was said to have rejected the request, leading to more disputes.

The party maintained that these allegations should be properly investigated by the relevant authorities.

The party also expressed concern over the events linked to the controversy.

It mentioned the death of Babatunde Tanimola, who was described as a middleman between Adeyemi and the Chief of Staff. Tanimola reportedly died during a hotel fire in Abuja in October 2025.

The NDC also noted Adeyemi’s claim that he escaped several attempts on his life.The party urged President Tinubu to set up an independent panel to examine every part of the matter.

It said investigators should look into the reported budget allocation, bank accounts, staff approvals and all financial activities connected to the alleged agency.

It also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigeria Police Force to begin a full investigation into the allegations.

In addition, the NDC asked investigators to question officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service.

It also requested a forensic review of official documents signed by the Chief of Staff since he assumed office.

The party said the allegations should be thoroughly examined in the interest of transparency and accountability.

It added that anyone found responsible after the investigation should face the law, regardless of their position in government.
