The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Tunji-Ojo disclosed the arrests shortly after President Bola Tinubu signed the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Act 2026 into law.

He said the operation was carried out as the suspects re-entered Nigeria through Katsina Airport after completing the pilgrimage.

The minister identified the suspects as senior figures linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP.

He said the arrests showed the government’s determination to stop terrorists from moving freely into the country and to strengthen national security.

Tunji-Ojo said security agencies remain on alert and will continue working together to identify, track and arrest individuals linked to terrorist groups.

He added that the government would sustain efforts to protect Nigerians from security threats.
