The candidates were travelling to begin their military training.
Military sources said the journey was being coordinated under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel P.D. Ngal when the crash occurred.
The exact cause of the accident and the number of casualties had not been confirmed at the time of filing this report.
Videos from the scene showed injured candidates on the roadside and inside damaged vehicles as emergency responders and passersby helped move them to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Many of the victims reportedly suffered different levels of injuries.
