NUJ Demands Action From Stakeholder To End Abuja’s One Chance

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has urged security agencies, government institutions, transport unions, community leaders and the media to work together to end the growing menace of “one-chance” robberies in Abuja.

The appeal was made by the council chairman, Grace Ike, during the visit of Deputy Inspector-General of Police Isyaku Mohammed to the FCT Police Command Headquarters.

Ike said the robberies have become a major threat to residents, especially women and young commuters.

She noted that many victims do not report the attacks because of fear, trauma or a lack of confidence in the system, allowing the criminals to continue operating.

She called for stronger patrols, intelligence-led policing, safer public transport, community involvement, support for victims and regular public awareness campaigns.

According to her, tackling the crime requires a united effort beyond law enforcement alone.

The NUJ chairman also pledged the media’s support in promoting community policing through responsible reporting, public education and verified information.

She commended the FCT Police Command for its cooperation with journalists and called for regular engagement between the police and the media to improve public safety.
