INEC Begins Parties Candidate Upload Process

The Independent National Electoral Commission will today issue access codes to political parties participating in the January 16, 2027 presidential election, allowing them to upload the names and details of their candidates.

Only recognised national chairmen and secretaries of eligible parties will receive the codes before the portal opens.

The commission said access would be restricted to parties whose presidential primaries were monitored by INEC and whose leadership is officially recognised.

The online nomination portal will open at 9 a.m. tomorrow and automatically close at 6 p.m. on July 11, leaving parties with a limited period to complete the process.

Several political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party, Nigeria Democratic Congress and Social Democratic Party, said they had concluded preparations and were ready to submit their candidates.

They added that primary election results had been finalised and only the upload stage remained.

Some parties are still working to settle internal issues before the deadline, while others are yet to announce running mates for their presidential candidates.

INEC said only submissions made by recognised party leaders through the official access codes would be accepted.
