Opposition Party Deregistration Could Trigger National Crisis – Timi Frank

Timi Frank, former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress, has warned that the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress and other opposition parties could lead to political tension in the country.

He said such a move may create instability if not carefully handled.

The warning comes after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to remove the ADC and four other political parties from the register.

The court based its decision on claims that the parties failed to meet required performance standards during the 2023 general election and later by-elections.

Frank said removing multiple opposition parties from the political space could weaken democratic participation and reduce choices available to voters.

He argued that a healthy democracy depends on the presence of different political voices competing freely.

He urged electoral authorities to handle the matter with caution, warning that any action seen as limiting opposition activity could spark wider national unrest.

He called for solutions that protect democratic stability and political inclusion.
