The disputes have led to parallel candidates, petitions and threats of court cases, raising questions about unity within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The crisis has been most visible in states such as Ogun and Katsina, where rival factions announced different governorship candidates.

In both states, competing groups are laying claim to the party’s ticket, creating confusion over the official nominees.

Similar complaints have emerged in Kano, Benue and Adamawa, where several aspirants rejected the outcome of the primaries.

Allegations include irregular conduct, lack of transparency and claims that some processes were manipulated.

Some members are also considering leaving the party or challenging the results in court.

The internal rift has already led to political consequences, including the resignation of a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and defections in some states.

Party officials say efforts are ongoing to manage the disputes and restore stability within the organisation.
