NDC To Confirm Obi As Presidential Candidate
In Nigeria, the Nigeria Democratic Congress is set to confirm Peter Obi as its presidential candidate today during its nationwide primaries.
The party said he emerged as the only aspirant for the ticket. The exercise is part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Party officials also confirmed that governorship and legislative candidates will emerge across all states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The primaries were adjusted due to delays linked to the Eid-el-Kabir holiday period. Logistical challenges and travel issues affected preparations in Abuja. Some aspirants were reportedly stranded during screening activities.
The NDC leadership said the process will include presidential, governorship and legislative selections across the country.
Results from all states are expected to be sent to the national headquarters for final collation.
The national working committee will announce the outcomes. No state-level body is allowed to declare results independently.
Party leaders urged members to remain calm and follow the rules during the exercise. They warned that any disruption or unauthorised action would not be accepted.
Security agencies and election bodies were also told not to take part in preparatory activities outside the approved schedule. The party said it is committed to a peaceful and orderly process.
