US Firm Reveals Fresh FBI Declaration on Tinubu Records

A United States-based policy advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has disclosed what it described as a fresh declaration by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) concerning President Bola Tinubu’s past.

The firm made the disclosure in a post on its verified X account on Monday, claiming that a sworn statement submitted by the FBI to a US federal court indicated that Tinubu had been investigated in connection with alleged drug trafficking.

Batten-Montague-York said parts of the FBI declaration became available after its group obtained a large volume of records relating to the matter.

The firm said the documents were being reviewed and redacted where necessary before further information could be released.

According to the group, the FBI stated in its declaration that a US court had previously determined that a criminal investigation involving Tinubu had been officially acknowledged.

The firm further claimed that the declaration linked the investigation to allegations involving heroin trafficking.

It said the FBI described the records in question as materials gathered as part of an investigation involving several individuals suspected of drug-trafficking offences.

Batten-Montague-York said the disclosure was intended to challenge claims that Tinubu had never been the subject of a criminal investigation and was only seeking to protect his privacy through the ongoing legal proceedings.

The latest development comes amid a continuing legal dispute in the United States over requests for the release of historical records relating to Tinubu held by US law-enforcement agencies.

The case has attracted attention in Nigeria, with political opponents and other interested parties seeking access to records concerning the President’s past dealings with US authorities.

The allegations contained in the newly disclosed material remain part of the ongoing legal dispute, and the case itself does not constitute a criminal conviction against Tinubu.
