Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State will face 17 other candidates in the 2027 governorship election after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) began publishing the particulars of candidates nominated by political parties.
The development means that 18 political parties are currently listed as having candidates for the Kaduna governorship contest, with Sani seeking a second term on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the complete list of candidates and their running mates had not been displayed at the INEC office in Kaduna as of Monday.
INEC started publishing the personal details and credentials of governorship candidates on Saturday as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.
Among the candidates identified so far is Isa Ashiru of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who is expected to provide a major challenge to the incumbent governor.
Other candidates include Bawa Usman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Muhammad Jamilu of the Accord Party and Adamu Ahmed of the Action Alliance (AA).
Tukur Rabiu is contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while Idris Adamu is the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Aminu Abdulfatah will represent the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), while Auwal Tafoki is the candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
Governor Sani is expected to contest alongside Jerry Adams as his running mate.
However, the identities of some of the other governorship candidates and their deputy candidates were still being awaited from the official INEC publication in Kaduna.
The commission’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) in Kaduna State, Ramatu Mohammad, confirmed that the list had not yet been pasted at the commission’s office.
Mohammad asked members of the public and journalists to remain patient, assuring them that the full details would be made available after the publication process was completed.
The release of the candidates’ particulars has already increased political activity across Kaduna State as parties begin preparations for what is expected to be a competitive governorship contest.
The publication also gives political parties, candidates and voters an opportunity to examine the information submitted by those seeking elective office.
The eventual release of the complete list, including all deputy governorship candidates, is expected to give a clearer picture of the alliances, party strategies and political calculations ahead of the 2027 Kaduna governorship election.
