Labour unions at the National Library of Nigeria have accused the ICPC of delaying action over corruption allegations against the National Librarian, Prof Chinwe Anunobi.

The unions claimed several petitions involving contract fraud, illegal asset sales and financial mismanagement had remained unresolved for more than two years.

The groups alleged that government properties were sold without proper approval and that money from the transactions was traced to personal accounts during investigations.

They also claimed the anti-graft agency questioned some staff members but had yet to invite the National Librarian, whom they described as central to the allegations.

The unions further accused the management of mismanaging over N10bn through inflated contracts, failed projects and questionable recruitment exercises.

They alleged that jobs were sold for huge sums and that recruitment processes violated federal character guidelines and approved public service structures.

The workers also criticised the renewal of Prof Anunobi’s appointment despite pending allegations before the ICPC.

They called on the Presidency, the Federal Ministry of Education and anti-corruption agencies to ensure a full investigation and prosecution of everyone involved.
