NIS Moves To Secure Borders Over Ebola

The Nigeria Immigration Service has moved to calm fears over the possible spread of Ebola into Nigeria through land borders.

The agency said border points across the country are fully monitored as health concerns grow over outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.

Immigration authorities explained that officers are stationed at official crossing points nationwide to monitor movements and screen travellers entering the country.

The service said efforts are ongoing to prevent illegal entry routes from becoming weak spots in the fight against infectious diseases.

The agency also disclosed that digital surveillance systems have been deployed to track areas that cannot be physically covered by personnel.

According to the service, the technology is helping officials monitor remote border routes and improve response time where suspicious movement is detected.

The reassurance comes amid rising concern over the Ebola outbreak in parts of East and Central Africa.

Nigerian authorities said border security and public health measures remain active to protect residents and reduce the risk of the virus spreading into the country.
