Alia Wins APC Governorship Ticket In Benue
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has secured the All Progressives Congress governorship ticket after winning the party’s primary election held across the state on Thursday.
The exercise took place ahead of the next governorship election.
The results announced in Makurdi showed that Alia polled 367,786 votes to defeat other aspirants in the race.
His closest challenger, Terwase Ornunde, scored 3,247 votes, while Jeffery Kuranun secured 2,923 votes.
The APC returning officer, Prof Mohammed Isah, said results from all 23 local government areas were collated before the final declaration at the state secretariat.
He confirmed that Alia met the party’s requirements and emerged winner of the contest.
Speaking after the victory, the governor thanked party members for their support and promised to continue working for the people of Benue State.
He also appealed to other aspirants and supporters to unite with him for the state’s development.
