Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has defended the allocation of land to diplomats and investors, accusing critics of double standards.

Speaking during a project inspection in Abuja on Thursday, he said many people condemning the policy had also benefited from government land allocations in the past.

Wike explained that land allocation in the FCT is part of government policy aimed at attracting development and investment.

He stated that organisations, including major media houses, operate on lands earlier allocated by the government and not purchased privately.

The minister also dismissed claims that the government was selling land unfairly.

According to him, allocations are tied to development agreements, while allottees are expected to pay processing fees for Certificates of Occupancy and carry out projects within agreed timelines.

He pointed to undeveloped areas around Jabi Lake that were recently reclaimed after remaining abandoned for years.

Wike insisted that his administration would continue to recover unused plots and support projects capable of improving Abuja’s landscape and economy.
