El Rufai Claims Plot Against Him

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has alleged a fresh attempt to link him to criminal acts ahead of a court decision on his bail.

He made the claim on Sunday through his aide, warning of efforts to damage his name. He is due in court on April 21 for a ruling. The case is before the Kaduna State High Court.

The court date was fixed by Justice Darius Khobo after hearing arguments from lawyers. His team says there are “malicious orchestrations” aimed at keeping him in custody.
He also recalled a February 12 incident where he claimed there were plans to arrest him at Abuja Airport. That moment, he said, marked the start of ongoing pressure against him.

His aide said he later honoured an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on February 16.
He was detained and then moved to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission two days later.
His camp also criticised a report about an attack on a witness’s home. The witness had suggested the incident could be linked to the trial.
El-Rufai denied any link to the attack, calling the claims false and damaging. His team said the report was meant to weaken his bail request and harm his image.
He has asked his lawyers to begin defamation action against the newspaper. The statement added that he has faced “innuendos and vilification” since leaving office and called for respect for due process.
