The move comes as the country faces pressure to secure energy and keep its refineries running without disruption.

This change is happening because Japan relies heavily on Middle Eastern oil, which has now been affected by conflict and risks along key shipping routes.

With fewer supplies coming in, refiners are adjusting quickly to avoid shortages.

However, switching sources is not easy in the short term. Many refineries are designed for specific crude types, making it difficult to process large volumes from new suppliers like Nigeria without technical adjustments.

Despite these limits, Nigeria is seeing increased demand as Japan looks for alternatives.

Experts say the shift will take time, as Japan works through supply gaps and adapts its systems to handle different crude sources.
