Families of the slain and residents, mostly women and children, accused authorities of wrongly arresting three local youths. They insisted that “those arrested are not bandits.”

The protest turned chaotic at the ECWA Gospel Church Angwan Rukuba, where the burial was meant to hold.

Demonstrators blocked access to the church, stopping mourners from entering as anger grew over the arrests. The situation led to clashes and halted the solemn ceremony.

The unrest follows a deadly assault days earlier in the same community, where gunmen attacked residents in the evening and killed several people.

Survivors were taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital for treatment, while fear continued to spread across nearby areas.

Security agencies had moved in after the attack, with police leadership ordering deployments to restore calm and track down those behind the violence.

Despite these steps, the funeral meant for mourning turned into a protest scene, showing the deep frustration and fear still gripping the community.
