IGP Deploys Top Officer After Kaduna Attack

In Kaduna State, the Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu has ordered the redeployment of DIG Operations Shehu Umar Nadada after a deadly attack in Ariko community.

The incident happened on April 5, 2026, when armed bandits stormed the area near Gurara Dam. At least five people were killed, while about 14 others were abducted.

The gunmen later fled into nearby forests.
The police said the directive followed the invasion of ECWA and Catholic churches during worship. Worshippers were attacked as the assailants opened fire inside the community.

In response, the police deployed Nadada to lead on-ground operations and assess the situation. The move is part of efforts to restore calm and rescue those taken.

Security operations involving the Nigeria Police, the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Services led to the rescue of seven victims.

The survivors were taken to Katari Hospital for treatment and are said to be stable. Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining abducted persons and track those behind the attack.

The development comes amid confusion over earlier claims by the Nigerian Army about a separate rescue of abducted worshippers.

Community members had disputed the military’s account, saying those taken were still in captivity.

Authorities say operations will continue, while residents have been urged to stay alert and share useful information with security agencies.
