Tinubu Cuts Fuel Price Across States

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a sharp reduction in petrol price, lowering it from ₦1,350 to ₦600 per litre across 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The directive takes effect from Tuesday, April 7, 2026, as part of efforts to ease pressure on citizens during the Easter period. The announcement was made in Abuja on April 6.

The decision affects major states including Lagos, Rivers, Kano, Oyo, Kaduna, Enugu, and others, covering key regions of the country.

Authorities say the move is aimed at providing relief to households and businesses facing rising living costs. It comes at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with economic strain.

The President instructed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and fuel marketers to implement the new pricing immediately.

He warned that any failure to comply would attract strict penalties, signalling a firm stance on enforcement. The directive is expected to bring quick changes at filling stations.

Motorists and residents have welcomed the development, describing it as timely support during the festive season.
