Kwara APC Crisis Turns Violent

In Irepodun Local Government Area, a deepening crisis within the All Progressives Congress has taken a violent turn after suspected hoodlums attacked the home of a former party chairman.

The incident has raised fresh fears as tensions continue to grow within the party.

The attack reportedly involved the vandalisation of a Toyota Corolla and burglary of the residence. The former chairman was not at home during the incident.

A video from the scene showed the vehicle badly damaged, suggesting a targeted action linked to the ongoing political dispute.

At the centre of the crisis is Thomas Adewumi, founder of Thomas Adewumi University, whose influence in the local party structure has divided members.

Some stakeholders accuse him of interfering in party affairs and manipulating processes, though these claims remain unproven.

Sources say the tension escalated after disputes over delegate lists at a party event in Abuja, where confusion broke out before party leaders stepped in to restore order.

Further disagreements over local leadership appointments and meeting venues have worsened the situation.

The crisis has also triggered fear among residents and party members, especially after a controversial meeting by a preferred candidate was rejected, deepening divisions within the party ranks.

Meanwhile, there are growing talks of mass defection, with some members considering leaving the APC for other parties ahead of the 2027 elections. Observers warn this could weaken the party’s grassroots strength in Kwara if not addressed quickly.

Party members are now calling on AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to step in and resolve the crisis before it escalates further.
