Rivers Elders To Decide Next Candidate – Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated he has not endorsed any candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections, leaving such decisions to the Elders Council led by Chief Ferdinand Alabraba.
Wike made the remarks while addressing a joint gathering of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party at his residence in Life Camp, Abuja.
He emphasized that his only political commitment is to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He warned aspirants that no governor can impose a candidate on Rivers State and urged coalition members to focus on the state’s best interests.
Wike also highlighted the importance of unity, cautioning against internal divisions driven by personal ambitions.
The minister dismissed rumours of private endorsements for elective offices, insisting his public and private positions are consistent, and reaffirmed that the only current endorsement recognized is for the Presidency.
He commended the Council Chairmen, elders, and party leaders for coordinating the meeting, noting the success of inclusive stakeholder engagement.
