Akpabio Speaks On Anioma State
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said Anioma State will be created, with Asaba named as its capital, while Warri would serve as the capital of Delta State.
The statement suggests a major proposed restructuring of Delta State, where Asaba is currently the state capital.
If implemented, it would mean carving out Anioma State from the existing structure and redefining administrative control in the region.
However, state creation in Nigeria follows a strict constitutional process.
It requires approval by the National Assembly, endorsement by affected state assemblies, and a referendum involving the people.
This means the proposal is still subject to several legal and political steps before it can become reality.
There has been long-standing agitation for Anioma State by some groups in the Delta North area, but no final approval has been granted yet.
