Wike Moves Reclaiming Diplomatic Lands

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has pledged stronger ties with the European Union while announcing plans to reclaim diplomatic lands in Abuja taken over by illegal occupants.

He spoke during a visit by EU Ambassador Gautier Mignot.

Wike said Nigeria remains committed to deepening cooperation with EU member states, in line with the agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
He described the partnership as important for development, especially in areas like justice reform and court digitalisation.

On land issues, the minister revealed that plots allocated to some EU countries had been encroached upon by land grabbers.
He said the FCT Administration has begun removing illegal structures and will contact affected countries to confirm their interest before restoring ownership.
He added that applications for land by EU staff would be treated fairly, provided proper procedures are followed.
Wike also confirmed that rehabilitation work will soon begin at the IBB Golf Club after setting up a caretaker committee.
The EU envoy described Nigeria as a key partner and said the relationship is entering a deeper phase.
