ADC Accused Of Misleading Nigerians

The All Progressives Congress has accused the African Democratic Congress of misleading Nigerians by blaming the country’s rising poverty rate on the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu.

The opposition party had cited a report indicating that Nigeria’s poverty rate rose to 63 percent after the removal of petrol subsidy, describing it as a reflection of the administration’s economic performance.

However, the APC rejected the claim, insisting that the reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration were necessary to correct long-standing structural problems in the economy.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the fuel subsidy and foreign exchange systems that existed before May 29, 2023 had become a major threat to Nigeria’s economic stability.

He said ending the subsidy and harmonising the foreign exchange regime were critical decisions that previous administrations avoided because of the short-term hardship such reforms could bring.

According to the APC, the policies have helped stabilise the economy and redirect public resources to sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare and social development.

The party also argued that economic reforms often involve difficult choices and temporary hardship but are necessary to secure long-term growth and stability.
