The postponement was announced by the National Organising Secretary of IPAC, Chinyere Kalu, who said a new date for the election would be communicated later.

In a statement, Kalu apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation.

The decision came after confusion at the venue, where delegates representing registered political parties reportedly left before the exercise began.

The election was expected to start at 10 a.m., but the electoral committee appointed by the national IPAC body did not appear at the venue.

Sources said members of the committee were elsewhere in the town when the election was supposed to begin.

One of the chairmanship contenders, Tosin Odeyemi of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, said he remained hopeful that the election would still take place soon.

He added that he was ready to participate whenever a new date is announced.
