According to the embassy, Americans in Nigeria should exercise extra caution when visiting US diplomatic locations.

The advisory specifically mentioned the US Embassy in Abuja, the US Consulate in Lagos and schools linked to American institutions.

“US citizens should take additional precautions when traveling to the embassy in the capital Abuja and the U.S. consulate in the commercial capital Lagos and U.S.-affiliated schools.”

Officials also advised citizens to change their travel routes and schedules as a safety measure.

Although the embassy did not disclose details about the threat, security has reportedly been strengthened in Abuja.

The warning comes amid concerns that tensions linked to the conflict in the Middle East could trigger protests or security risks in parts of Nigeria.
