Ejiofor, ex Kanu’s Lawyer Addresses $19,000 Controversy

Aloy Ejiofor, former lawyer to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has confirmed that he returned $19,000 that was mistakenly paid into his bank account at the early stage of Kanu’s trial.

In a statement released on Tuesday titled “Important clarification to discerning minds”, Ejiofor said the explanation became necessary to set the record straight regarding the payment.

According to him, the money was quickly retrieved after Kanu informed him that the payment had been made by mistake and was not meant for the purpose it was later linked to.
He said the instruction to return the funds came directly from Kanu.
Ejiofor added that he transferred the money back the same day it was credited to his account using details of a proxy nominated to receive the funds.
He also said he plans to publish the transaction receipt and account details connected to the transfer for full transparency.
