The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise Oluwole Oluyede as the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Ekiti State.

The ruling comes amid a long-standing dispute over the party’s candidate list for the upcoming July 20 election.

The decision follows INEC’s earlier refusal to list Oluyede, citing non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

The court directed the commission to include his name and the PDP logo on the ballot, barring the exclusion of the candidate from any election-related activities.

The ruling resolves internal PDP disputes that have persisted since the November 2025 national convention.

Conflicting factions had previously claimed leadership of the party, with attempts to hold meetings descending into chaos, forcing the closure of the national secretariat.

The judgment is seen as a legal victory for Oluyede and his supporters, reinforcing the requirement for INEC to act within the law and maintain neutrality.

The party is now positioned to move forward with its campaign in the Ekiti governorship race.
