INEC Receives AMAC PDP Candidate Withdrawal Letter
The Abuja Municipal Area Council election has taken a fresh twist after the Peoples Democratic Party chairmanship candidate, Hon. Zadna Dantani, withdrew from the race and backed the All Progressives Congress contender, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu.
His decision came less than a day after a similar withdrawal in Bwari Area Council.
Dantani said he stepped down following the intervention of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
He disclosed that he had also forwarded a formal letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission to confirm his withdrawal ahead of the February 21, 2026 polls.
In his remarks, he expressed gratitude to his supporters and said the move was made after wide consultations.
He described the contest as a brotherhood affair and declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, urging his backers across the 12 wards of AMAC to vote for the APC candidate.
In the letter addressed to INEC, Dantani stated that he voluntarily pulled out of the contest after careful consideration and discussions with his family and other stakeholders.
He maintained that the decision was taken of his own free will and extended his regards to the electoral body.
