The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dismissed reports claiming that markets in Onitsha and other parts of the South-East were open during Monday’s sit-at-home.

The group insisted that there was “total compliance” with the order, with streets deserted and businesses closed across what it called Biafraland.

IPOB said the shutdown extended to Aguata and Awka, affecting schools, banks, government offices, and the Governor’s local government area.

The organisation accused some media and political actors of attempting to create a false impression that markets were operational.
The group also questioned the Anambra State Government’s stance, noting that Governor Chukwuma Soludo reportedly threatened to demolish thousands of shops, contradicting claims of open markets.
IPOB warned that intimidation of traders could encourage similar actions against Igbo businesses elsewhere.
IPOB emphasised that the sit-at-home was about dignity and solidarity, not coercion, and reaffirmed its commitment to truth.
The organisation vowed to continue resisting attempts to misrepresent events, declaring that propaganda would not silence a united people.
