PDP Leadership Plans For New Direction

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party met in Abuja on Monday, February 2, 2026, as the National Executive Committee gathered for its 105th meeting under the National Caretaker Committee.

The session marked the party’s first major gathering of the year and came at a time of renewed confidence following months of internal tension.

The meeting reflected on the challenges faced in 2025, a period marked by internal disputes that led to court cases and leadership uncertainty.

Party leaders said those difficulties tested the PDP but also strengthened its structures, noting that members who chose to follow due process helped prevent a total breakdown.

Attention focused on a recent Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan which nullified the party’s Ibadan convention.

The judgement confirmed the legitimacy of the current caretaker leadership led by Abdulrahman Muhammed, with Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary, clearing doubts around authority and allowing the party to move forward with stalled congresses and preparations for a national convention.

The leadership used the meeting to call for unity, reconciliation and discipline across all levels of the party.

They praised figures such as Nyesom Wike and Bukola Saraki for backing legal processes during the crisis and urged members to set aside divisions as the PDP positions itself as a credible opposition ahead of future elections.
