George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the 2025 Anambra election, has stepped away from the party, formally ending his membership on January 26, 2026.

The move followed his participation in the November 2025 off-cycle governorship election, where he ran on the platform of the Labour Party. Moghalu had emerged as the party’s flagbearer during the build-up to the poll.

He conveyed his resignation in a personally signed letter addressed to the Labour Party chairman of his ward in Uruagu, Nnewi. The document was dated January 26, 2026, and stated that the decision took immediate effect.
In the letter, Moghalu expressed gratitude to the party at the ward, state and national levels for giving him the opportunity to contest the governorship election.
He acknowledged the backing and cooperation he received throughout the campaign period.
His resignation was conveyed in a calm and respectful tone, marking a clear but orderly departure from the party after the election season.
