Wike Welcomes Dialogue With FCT Workers

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has confirmed that the administration remains open to reasonable dialogue with striking workers following a court ruling ordering them to resume duties.

Speaking in Abuja, Wike said the government had already met many of the legitimate demands of the workers but insisted that some requests went beyond what employees were entitled to.

He stressed that the strike was not a new issue and that the administration initially pursued dialogue rather than legal action.

The minister explained that court intervention became necessary after attempts at discussion were overshadowed by political interference.

He described the move as a way to ensure impartial evaluation of the workers’ demands instead of leaving public narratives to misinformation and propaganda.

Wike also addressed financial challenges in the FCT, noting that the territory receives only one per cent of federal revenue and relies heavily on internally generated funds to meet salaries and operational costs.

He outlined reforms introduced under his administration, including the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission, appointment of permanent secretaries, and creation of the Office of the Head of Service.

Following the court’s ruling, Wike warned that workers who fail to resume duties would face disciplinary measures.

He reiterated that dialogue remains open, but any attempt to use blackmail or political tactics to stall government functions will not be tolerated.

The minister affirmed the administration’s commitment to lawful governance and ongoing reforms in the territory.
