Electricity workers at the Kano Electricity Distribution Company have called off their strike after fresh talks between the company’s management and labour unions led to a breakthrough.

The suspension followed meetings held after the industrial action disrupted operations across Kano and neighbouring areas. The workers had downed tools earlier in the week, citing unresolved welfare issues and pension concerns.

Management of KEDCO confirmed that agreements were reached with union leaders, paving the way for staff to return to work. As part of the resolution, a payment of N170 million was approved to address some of the workers’ outstanding demands.

The strike began on Thursday after employees complained about poor working conditions and delays in pension remittances. The action affected electricity services, raising concerns among customers and businesses dependent on steady power supply.

With the new resolution in place, normal operations are expected to resume, as both parties agreed to continue dialogue to prevent future disputes and improve labour relations within the company.
