Sowore Slams US Airstrikes, Warns Nigeria Losing Control

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and former presidential candidate, has criticised the United States over reported airstrikes carried out inside Nigeria, saying the action shows a serious failure of national leadership and respect for sovereignty.

The reaction followed reports of a Christmas Day strike on a village in Sokoto State, said to be aimed at terrorist targets. The operation was later described by Nigerian authorities as involving foreign partners.
Sowore spoke on Friday through a post on X, where he accused both the US and Nigerian governments of acting without proper accountability. He said the strikes happened without clear and informed consent from Nigeria’s leadership.
According to him, the situation shows that Nigeria no longer has full control over key security decisions affecting its people and territory. He warned that such actions reduce the country to a passive observer in matters of its own safety.

Sowore argued that a nation unable to defend its borders or decide how security operations are carried out cannot claim true independence. He described the development as dangerous for citizens and the future of the country.
He added that only strong, informed, and responsible leadership can protect Nigeria’s land and people, warning that continued silence or acceptance of such actions could lead to deeper loss of control.
