ASUU Gives 31 OOU Students Cash Aid

The Academic Staff Union of Universities at Olabisi Onabanjo University has awarded cash scholarships to 31 students from low-income homes to help them stay in school and complete their studies.

The beneficiaries are undergraduates of Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ogun State, selected under the union’s indigent students support scheme aimed at easing financial pressure on struggling learners.

The scholarships were announced on Sunday by the ASUU OOU leadership, with each student receiving ₦200,000, bringing the total support package to ₦6.2 million for the 2025–2026 academic session.
The intervention took place within the university community, where rising costs have made it harder for many students to meet basic academic expenses such as school fees and approved charges.

The union said the support was necessary to prevent students from dropping out due to poverty and to promote equal access to higher education regardless of background.
The funds were raised through voluntary donations from internal members of the university council, who gave up sitting allowances from council meetings, alongside direct financial input from the ASUU OOU branch, showing shared responsibility for student welfare and academic success.
