The Peoples Democratic Party leadership says it is hopeful that Abia State Governor Alex Otti could run for a second term on the PDP platform in the 2027 governorship election.

The party believes his current performance has made him attractive across party lines.
The view was shared in Umuahia by PDP Board of Trustees chairman and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, who said the party would welcome Otti if he decides to switch camps. He described the governor as a strong political asset whose record in office speaks for itself.

Wabara said interest in Otti from different parties is driven by visible changes in Abia, adding that recent efforts by the PDP leadership under the Tanimu Turaki-led national structure have made the party more appealing ahead of the next election cycle.
He noted that the South-East has long been a PDP base and that Otti’s entry would boost the party’s strength in the region. According to him, party elders are working to rebuild the PDP and attract leaders who can help grow it nationwide.

Wabara praised Otti’s policies and projects, including the launch of a 25-year development plan, road construction, healthcare upgrades, and the introduction of electric buses for urban transport, saying these steps have eased life for residents.
He urged the governor to consider the PDP as a stronger platform for 2027, pointing to internal troubles within the Labour Party. Wabara also said good governance should rise above party loyalty, adding that the PDP believes its internal problems are fading and its future looks brighter.
