Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has welcomed the appointment of Professor Chituru Godwill Orluwene as chief medical director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
The appointment was made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and announced on Tuesday, drawing praise from Wike who described it as another positive step for Rivers State.
Wike said the decision shows the president’s continued goodwill toward Rivers people, noting that the state has benefited from several federal appointments under the current administration.
He described Orluwene as well suited for the role, saying his background and experience place him in a strong position to improve healthcare delivery at the teaching hospital.
The minister also acknowledged the role of the coordinating minister of health and social welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, for recommending Orluwene for the position.
Wike urged the new CMD to work closely with staff and stakeholders to strengthen services at the hospital and support the broader goals of the federal government in the health sector.
