PDP Expels Makinde, Bala Mohammed And Dissolves State Excos

The Peoples Democratic Party has removed several high-profile figures from its ranks after its National Executive Committee approved their expulsion during its meeting in Abuja.

Those affected include the governors of Oyo, Bauchi and Zamfara States — Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed and Dauda Lawal — as well as former Board of Trustees chairman Adolphus Wabara, former Deputy National Chairman Taofeek Arapaja, and others accused of working against the party.

The committee also dissolved party executives in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo and Ekiti States. New caretaker committees will replace them while fresh congresses are expected to begin soon.

The decisions followed concerns raised by Acting National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman, who said the expelled members ignored court rulings and caused divisions within the party. NEC members said their actions created confusion, factional camps and defections among elected officials across the country.

The communique issued after the meeting stressed that the party draws its authority from its constitution and the constitution of Nigeria. NEC said the expulsions were based on breaches involving anti-party behaviour, defiance of court orders and conduct seen as damaging to the party’s image.

The committee also directed that Deputy officers fill vacant National Working Committee positions in acting capacity. It reaffirmed Abdulrahman as the acting national chairman and asked the party’s legal team to begin steps to reclaim seats held by elected officials who left the PDP.

NEC approved a reconciliation programme aimed at rebuilding unity but warned that discipline will remain the foundation of the party. It also announced a nationwide membership audit ahead of the 2027 elections. Party leaders at the meeting urged members to stay committed as the PDP works to restore stability and confidence within its ranks.
